I’m always jokingly saying that i’m addicted to Facebook. I love the thrill of getting new friends, having people write to me, finding nice photos to post. I love the little online community, the fact that most of my friends live there, and I can keep in touch with that girl I met when I was three without having to pick up a phone. Myspace was fun, but Facebook is GREAT.
However, the more I think about it, the more I realise I might actually have a problem. I do naturally struggle with self-control, and am very easily distracted so it was never the best idea to join a social networking site. But now,  i’m checking my facebook 5 times a day. Whenever work is too stressful, I log on, hoping for a ‘poke’ (not rude). I have to reply to messages, otherwise I will forget about them and offend my other facebook-iees. The compulsive ping of an email arriving in my inbox has been replaced by hitting the refresh button on the news feed page. Does that make me sad? And if it does, is it just me?
I’d argue that people’s paid work all over the world is suffering due to Facebook addiction. I know that my boss’ is, mainly because he told me off for being on facebook by seeing I too was online (a classic case of pot/kettle/black). I’m hoping this phase will pass soon, that the gossip streams and ironic groups will fade and start to lose their appeal. It isn’t happening soon though. It won’t be long until I have to attend an FA meeting.

I just added you as a friend on facebook. I’m trying to get it down. It’s a bit much, but I do like it better than myspace as well!

It is pretty addictive I have to admit!

You only check it 5 times a day? I’m probably into triple figures if you count how many times I click on the refresh button. It’s always on my desktop. If anyone wants to get in touch with me direct they very rarely use email now, they just use Facebook.
